Man and a woman have been charged with murder in the death of a 78-year-old truck driver after his body was found in his burned, smoke-filled Brighton-area home.
Laura Carole Childress, 37, of Brighton and Chase Andrew McGraw, 18, who has no known home address, also have been charged with first-degree arson among other crimes, the Adams County district attorney said Tuesday. Childress and McGraw are being held at the Adams County jail. They're scheduled to be advised of the charges against them today in Adams County.
Firefighters found Robert Moreland's body June 14 at his home in the 13000 block of Kennedy Avenue. He had been beaten, and his van was stolen. He apparently took in the pair, and possibly another man, to help them through hard times, neighbors and family told police.
