Greg M. Hermonstyne, 31, and Rhonda M. Trapp, 29, were dealing drugs from an apartment at 2285 Route 9, and that more than 5 ounces of crack and powder cocaine that were packaged for sale were seized this week in a search of the residence.
Around $700 in cash was also seized after police executed their search warrant following a month long investigation, provoked by a tip police received through their crime hotline.
Lt. Michael Tietz, of the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, said Thursday that the drugs had a street value of at least $12,000, and represented a "pretty significant quantity" for the area.
"They were doing a pretty hefty business there," he said. "This just goes to show drugs are not just an issue in the cities."
Tietz said that investigators say believe the drugs were being brought to the area from the New York City area. Hermonstyne and Trapp also have an address in Far Rockaway, near the John F. Kennedy Airport.
Hermonstyne and Trapp were arraigned in Malta Town Court on charges of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, class A felonies. Each remains at the Saratoga County Jail, where they are being held without bail or bond.
Additional charges and arrests in the case are "very possible," Tietz said.
The case, Tietz said, shows that "there's no community that's immune to illegal narcotics."
"People that are selling drugs are going to go where there's a market for them and apparently there's a little demand in that area," he said.
Tietz also said the case serves as "an example of how an anonymous tip can lead to these people held accountable for what they're doing."
